BMW is one of the largest premium car manufacturers globally, selling more than 2.5 million cars per year in 100+ countries around the world.
Although speed, agility, and a premium experience are at the core of BMW’s identity, BMW was experiencing challenges with providing a superb user experience on the web, especially when it came to offering fast loading times across a multitude of countries. To address this challenge, they were looking for a way to accelerate their websites while also taking into account multiple internal stakeholders and taking on country-specific technical challenges.
Baqend’s Speed Kit significantly improved the rendering speed and user experience of BMW’s websites, as well as reducing latency and avoiding unnecessary Time-to-First-Byte bottlenecks in loading. Baqend achieved these improvements through the new Service Worker technology as well as by applying innovative caching algorithms for faster delivery of both static assets and highly dynamic HTML. Additionally, Baqend accelerated 3rd party services on the websites, optimizing the loading order of critical resources and applying automatic image optimization.
The Main Results
The implementation of Baqend’s Speed Kit enabled BMW to improve the user experience on its websites in 118 countries despite country-specific technical challenges.
The consistent uplift in the Google Core Web Vitals like the Largest Contentful Paint across all continents confirmed the substantially improved user experience on BMW’s websites.
Overall, Speed Kit saves 63.45% of unnecessary image data for over 196 million images delivered to users monthly.
Baqend is helping companies “perform better online” by accelerating the website loading time. As a university spinoff with years of research, Baqend has developed a unique algorithm enabling them to accelerate the loading time of websites by a factor of 2-3x with minimal effort. They are currently live on 7,000 websites and serve over 100 million unique users monthly.
